The Review

Lately, I’ve been looking at quite a few different messenger style bags that could fit all my range gear and carry over my shoulder without being too bulky. I ran across the LA Police Gear Jumbo Bail Out Bag and thought it was worth a look.

LA Police Gear’s Jumbo Bail Out Bag is available in black, coyote tan, and OD green. It is made from a rugged 600D polyester fabric treated with a protective PVC coating to enhance its resistance to moisture, dirt and abrasion so it is very easy to keep clean. All of the seams are double-stitched and all exposed edges are wrapped with polyester webbing and double-stitched for enhanced strength and durability. All zippers, each with a 2.5″ paracord pull are treated with Plasticoat for a smooth operation.

LA Police Gear’s Jumbo Bail Out Bag is about 30% larger than their original Bail Out Bag with twelve external pockets in addition to the main compartment.

The inside dimensions of the main compartment are approximately 15.5″ wide, 12″ tall and 6″ deep, easily large enough to stow a 15″ laptop. The two side panels are lined with a soft polyester lining to protect delicate items from abrasion. On one side of the main compartment there are two mesh pockets with a zippered closure approximately 7″ wide, 12″ tall, and capable of expanding to about 1″ deep. On the other side, there are four magazine pockets approximately 3.5″ wide, 8″ tall and nearly 1″ deep.

The bottom and two ends of the main compartment are lined with loop to attach the 8.25″ high removable panel and hold it securely in place. There are also two slim pockets on the removable panel approximately 7″ wide and 5.75″ tall and the reverse side is covered in loop backing.

The lid of the main compartment is held closed by a heavy-duty zipper capable of being locked. On the the lid itself, there is a long pocket for narrow items like screwdrivers, pens and zipties. It is 13.25″ long and 2.75″ wide.

On both sides of the bag, along the main compartment outer walls there is hidden pocket on each side with a hook and loop side panel and closure. Each are approximately 15.5″ wide and 12″ tall, sized perfectly for holding various paperwork, targets, and even a concealed firearm. It would have been nice if the opposite panel in these pockets had also been lined with loop or the soft polyester lining.

The two webbed handles are made from a heavy-duty 2″ nylon webbing. Each are attached to the back wall of the hidden pockets and wrap around below main compartment for additional strength. At the center point of the handles, there is a hook and loop cover wrap to hold the two handles together.

On each end of the bag just outside of the main compartment there is a side pocket capable of opening to 3.6″ in diameter, designed for carrying items that you need quick access to like radios and water bottles. Each with a paracord drawstring and lock to firmly hold them in place.

Just above each of the two side pockets are rugged D-rings for attaching the shoulder strap. The shoulder strap is also made from the same heavy-duty 2″ nylon webbing as the handles. It has a comfortable pad that is nearly 12″ long and secured to the strap with hook and loop so it is removable. Either end is attached to the D-ring with a swivel and quick-clip.

On one side of the bag, there are five pockets with held closed hook and loop closures. The two largest of the pockets are 4″ wide, 9″ tall and 2″ deep. The two smallest are 3″ wide, 3.5″ tall and 1.25″ deep. The widest pocket on this side of the bag is 6″ wide, 4.5″ tall and 2″ deep. Perfectly sized for holding items like shooting glasses. On the closure flap, there is a 4″ x 3″ hook and loop attachment point for additional ID and moral patches.

Each of the hook and loop closure flaps have rounded edges. However, on some of the corners the hook and loop material that is sewn on is not trimmed with the same radius. While this is not detrimental to its functionality, it certainly was an QC oversight.

On the other side of the bag, there are two zippered external compartments, each approximately 7″ wide, 8.5″ tall and 2″ deep. On the outside of each compartment, there is a 5.75″ x 2.75″ hook and loop attachment point for ID and moral patches. Each compartments contains a multitude of smaller organizational pockets and sleeves designed to hold small items like pens and other various tools. Some of the smaller pockets even have hook and loop straps for securing their load.

Final Thoughts

At just under $30, this bag is a steal. It is extremely durable and has been a solid performer as a range bag. Though, it would likely work just as well as a bail out bag, EDC, messenger bag, or anything else that you might need it for. The large compartments and small organizational pockets inside and out are very well thought out, perfect for keeping things in order. They are easily accessible and provide plenty of room for all of my gear and then some.
