Our newest addition to the REDLINE® series, the REDLINE® Select combines maximum performance with extreme convenience. Our brightest flashlight to date, the Select features 310 lumens of intense white light which can be seen over 200 yards away (in spot light mode.) 310 Lumens is maximum performance, but what is extreme convenience? The convenience features of this flashlight prove one thing…that we listen to our customers. In addition to the steel belt clip, the Select also has a lanyard to make sure it is always within reach. The ergonomic body is suited with heat-sinks which are used to disperse heat from the flashlight during extended periods of time. The signature red ring is now coupled with a stealth ring. To go into stealth mode, simply turn the stealth ring clockwise to block light from shining through the red ring. The REDLINE® Select is named ‘Select’ for a reason. To improve functionality of the 5 lighting modes, a smart select dial has been added to quickly and conveniently choose your lighting mode while the light is on or off. This feature keeps you from having to cycle through each setting to get to the mode that you need. And that…is extreme convenience.

The Review

Over the years I have bought dozens of flashlights. Especially the cheap alternatives. And every time you need them to work, they fail. This time, I decided to try something better. At one of my local gun shops, they had a Nebo display on the counter. They seemed reasonably priced so I thought I would give them a try. I purchased the Nebo 5620 Redline Select Flashlight for around the house and the Nebo 5581 Redline Tactical Flashlight for my range bag. However, this article will only focus on the Nebo 5620 Redline Select Flashlight.

Nebo 5620 Redline Select FlashlightThe Nebo 5620 Redline Select Flashlight is a high-output flashlight capable of emitting a blinding 310 lumens with an MSRP of only $49.99. However, with a little digging, you can usually find it for less than $40. With most 200+ lumen flashlights costing upwards of $80, this flashlight is a very affordable alternative.

The power button is located on 5620’s base with a magnetic ring surrounding the button providing hands-free lighting when attached to steel surfaces. The power button glows in the dark and has a battery indicator built in letting the user know when the three triple AAA batteries reach a battery life of less than 20%. I just can’t emphasize enough just how handy the power indicator really is.

The 5620 has an aggressive self-defense styled bezel face with a rugged anodized aircraft-grade aluminum body was designed to be tough and durable, but it is far from indestructible. Especially when used under the most rigorous conditions. It has been rated to survive a 2-meter fall. Additionally, the 5620 is not completely waterproof and only has water-resistant rating of IP65. However, it has been far better than any sub-$20 flashlights that I’ve purchased in the past.

The rugged anodized aircraft-grade aluminum body is not completely waterproof. It is only water-resistant with an IP65 rating. The 5620 was also designed to be tough and durable, but it is far from indestructible. Especially when used under the most rigorous conditions. It is rated to survive a 2-meter fall. Far better than any sub-$20 flashlights that I’ve purchased in the past.

The simple dial mode selector provides a quick and convenient way to choose between the five available lighting modes (100%, 50%, 10%, SOS or Defensive Strobe). Simply choose your lighting mode while the light is on or off. This feature keeps you from having to cycle through each option to get to the mode that you need as you do in other models. The 5620 provides a signature red ring designed to enhance each of the five different lighting modes and can easily be hidden with a new stealth ring feature. To activate the stealth mode, simply turn the stealth ring clockwise to block light from shining through the red ring.

Nebo Redline SeriesNebo’s 5620 output specs are somewhat impressive, especially considering its low price. At 100%, the 5620 has a runtime of 2 hours providing 310 lumens and is viewable up to 216 yards. At the middle setting of 50%, the 5620 has a runtime of 5 hours providing 155 lumens and is viewable up to 105 yards. At the lowest setting of 10%, the 5620 has a runtime of 12 hours providing 31 lumens and is viewable up to 41 yards. Additionally, both the S.O.S. and Defensive Strobe settings have a runtime of 60 hours and a viewable distance of 216 yards.

In addition to the steel belt clip, the 5620 also has a lanyard to make sure it is always within reach and an anti-roll ring so it will stay put on most any surface.

The 5620 is equipped a single built-in high-power LED bulb capable of delivering up to 310 lumens and is rated for 110,000+ hours of life. The Convex lens evenly distributes the light without any dull or dark spots. The 4x adjustable zoom bezel twists smoothly when transitioning between the flood light and spot light beams. Once your desired beam is selected it stays put.

The 5620 has an aggressive self-defense styled bezel face. The bezel also acts as a heat-sink, designed to disperse heat from the bezel during extended periods of use. This should extend the life of the electronics inside.

There have been a number of reports describing a gradual permanent dimming effect as well as report of flickering. However, this does not seem to be a widespread issue and nothing that the warranty should not cover. Nebo provides each unit a one year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. However, the warranty does not cover normal wear and tear.

Final Thoughts

Without a doubt, the 5620 provides you with fantastic performance and durability at a great price. I’ve had mine for nearly 4 months now and it has been working perfectly. I strongly recommend you take a look at this flashlight for yourself. I am certainly happy with my purchase.

On the negative side, I do wish mode selector dial did not feel so loose. I would have rather it been a tighter tolerance and smoother adjustment, giving it the same precision feel like that of the 4x zoom adjustment. While this is not a game-changer, I do hope they will address this in a future model.
