The Review

If you wear boots a lot and your feet, knees and back hurt, it is a safe bet to look at your footwear first to find relief. Especially if you wear budget footwear. In some cases, simply swapping out the insoles can remedy the pain. Over the last few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to put quite a few miles on the Trail insole from Superfeet while trying them out, and now it is time to share my experience…

Superfeet Trail InsolesSuperfeet Trail insoles are made from a durable impact-resistant and shock-absorbing waterproof foam rubber called Aerospring. It runs the entire length of the footbed and has a well-formed ergonomic shape providing exceptional support and long-lasting comfort with each step. The heel cup and arch are further supported by a lifting and stabilizing semi-rigid yellow plastic cradle called Silent Step that is fused to the insole, wrapping around the heel and rearfoot along the outer edge of the insole to provide an additional layer of support and stability, thereby reducing fatigue.

The forefoot of the insole is well-ventilated to provide cool comfort. Each Trail insole is covered by a camouflage-colored soft slip-resistant moisture wicking fabric top with a long-lasting odor control barrier called Scentlok.

Superfeet Trail insoles will fit most hiking, military and work boot styles that have removable factory insoles. Just swap the old ones for the new ones, and you are good to go. They are warrantied for up to 12 months or 500 miles, whichever comes first, and they come with a 60-day satisfaction guarantee.

Final Thoughts
Over the years, I’ve tried dozens upon dozens of cheap boots, and I always come back to the more expensive higher-end boots for their extreme comfort and durability. The same thing goes with insoles… Cheap ones just don’t perform anything like more expensive high-quality insoles.

One of the most notable features of the Trail insoles to me has got to be the sizable arch support. I found this high arch to be far more pronounced than most arches found on cheap aftermarket and factory insoles. The extra lift seems to help reduce some of the pressure on the medial-side of the knee that many people often suffer from.

Superfeet Trail InsloesThe second most notable feature to me would have to be the enhanced lateral support and stability provided by the heel cradle. While it is plenty flexible to remain comfortable and not be restrictive, it does provides just enough rigidity to prevent rolling side to side. Something very important, especially with older boots.

Additionally, there is a lot more material cushioning the heel which in turn increases the heel-rise, but not so much that the heel is too high to fit within most heel counters. A slight heel rise can often offset some of the strain and pressure placed on the lower back while standing and walking for long periods of time.

It took at least a few miles before my feet started to become accustomed to these new insoles, but once I was able to get used to them, they were much comfortable to stand and walk around in. While the arch and heel rise could be a little too sizable for some, they were just fine for me so your mileage may vary. You really can’t beat a 60-day satisfaction guarantee if there is any possibility that they may provide the comfort, stability and support that you are looking for.
